The Return of the Swallows 2013

Return of the Swallows 2013
The Day started out raining and over cast by lunch time the rain had stopped but the cloud cover was thick. I went to the viewing site 3pm and people were already starting to arrive, and arrive they did. People armed with chairs, picnics and family's filled the viewing site. The viewing site was packed by 5.30pm and all spectators waited anxiously for the Barn Swallows arrival. The skies darkened even more and the Barn Swallows did arrive but only at 5.21pm, visibility was poor and people without binoculars would have been disappointed. The Barn Swallows arrived in their thousands, were low in altitude and blended with the landscape appearing briefly above the horizon. Those with binoculars were amazed, it was a short yet rewarding sighting. I advised that it is different every night and numbers are changing daily as more swallows are arriving.
